What is Biblical Integration in Clinical Counseling?
Biblical integration in clinical counseling refers to the ethical and client-led inclusion of a person’s Christian faith, biblical beliefs, and spiritual convictions within the counseling process. It is not a separate form of therapy, but rather a way of respectfully incorporating a client’s relationship with God and Scripture into evidence-based counseling when desired.
For some clients, this may include exploring how biblical truth supports coping, hope, forgiveness, identity in Christ, or life direction. For others, it may involve prayer, Scripture, spiritual reflection, or discussing how their faith shapes emotional experiences and decisions. Many clients choose not to integrate faith in their counseling, and that choice is always fully respected.
At Light in the Darkness Counseling, biblical integration is always:
-
Client-directed (you choose if and how it is included)
-
Respectful and non-coercive (never imposed or assumed)
-
Clinically appropriate (used only when it supports emotional and psychological well-being)
-
Integrated with evidence-based care (such as CBT, DBT, and trauma-informed approaches)
Biblical integration is never used to pressure or change a client’s beliefs. Instead, it is an optional support for clients who already identify their Christian faith as an important part of their life and healing process.
My goal is to honor the whole person—body, mind, relationships, and soul—while always prioritizing your autonomy, informed consent, and clinical care
